Unfurling

My garden has been slow in its opening.  The ferns, lily of the valley, goatsbeard and hellebores are slowly unfurling their fresh, tender leaves.  Same for the leaves on the trees, the slow open.  The birds arrived this week. The great migration is on. The catbirds are loud and noisy.  Orioles seem to be everywhere this year.  A red breasted grosbeak was at the feeder.  The male cardinal is absolutely brilliant red, not to be overlooked.  Each day I hear a new arrival.  And then there are the voles, moles and one other critter that keep digging holes or eating the roots of my plants!  Every creature needs something.
