Meditation on a rose.
I draw a rose every day since the fall. I had done one rose drawing a year ago, specifically the Fairy Rose in my garden. It is a prolific plant. I’d say resilient. I moved it around the yard at least a dozen times. It thrives. I looked at the original, one drawing, liked it and thought I’d keep going. I use color pencils and oil pastel to frame the page. I look at a rose clipping or I don’t. Some days, the drawing is imagined or remembered, from memory. The happenings or weather of the day influence the color choice of the page frame.
The rose plant has a long history and deep symbolism. The “rosary” is a rose garden and then took on a religious connotation. I don’t know where this project is headed but I am enjoying the focus on one, single iconic flower.
